A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a house in Bicester today.

Police were called to a house in Lucerne Avenue at about 10.30am following reports of a domestic altercation.

Despite the efforts of police and ambulance staff, the 31-year-old was declared dead at hospital.

She has been named locally as Janeé Parsons, a mother of two.

It is believed she died from stab wounds.

Detective Chief Inspector Joe Kidman, leading the investigation, said: “We have made an arrest and at this stage, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

"We are keen to speak with anyone in Lucerne Avenue this morning who may have important information that will assist us in building a clear picture of this tragic incident.

Area Commander Supt Andy Boyd added: “Such violent crime is very rare in Cherwell and I understand the concern that incidents such as these can cause.

"The investigation is in the early stages and your neighbourhood policing team will be available in the local area to offer reassurance."

Neighbours living in the quiet reacted with shock at the news.

Maria Evans said: "It's incredibly upsetting. It is such a quiet neighbourhood, and the thoughts have to be with the children. It is such a huge shock to hear something like this has happened, absolutely devastating and will upset so many people.

"My children are friends with the kids and they feel like they want to help, but can't. I just can't understand it."
