PLANS aimed at clamping down on parking problems around Bicester North station have not won the support of residents.

Oxfordshire County Council has accepted its plans for parking restrictions east and west of Buckingham Road are not popular.

The authority had planned to ban parking on one side of certain roads from 11am to midday and on the other from midday to 1pm.

The restrictions were due to affect most of Woodfield Road, the southern section of Blake Road, Balliol Drive, Cedar Drive, Magdalen Close and part of Bassett Avenue.

But a report due to go to deputy leader Rodney Rose next year said: “It is clear from consultation responses that the proposed restrictions in Woodfield Road and Blake Road are not supported by the residents they are intended to help.

“As a result it has been suggested that the proposals to the west of Buckingham Road should not be pursued but that alternative solutions to ease the congestion caused by commuter parking be explored at a future date.”

A total of 38 responses were received by the council, and the vast majority were negative.

Residents complained that the proposals would make their situation worse if they parked in the streets during the day.

Mr Rose is due to meet officers on January 3 to discuss the proposals.
