VILLAGERS in Fawler have planted an oak tree to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee last year.
The tree was planted last month to the east of the village, next to a new bench overlooking the Evenlode Valley.
About 30 residents were joined for the event by county councillor Neil Owen, who placed a ceremonial trowel of soil on the tree’s roots.
Donations from the community and a £375 West Oxfordshire District Council grant paid for the project, with work carried out over a number of weekends by residents.
The planting was supervised by tree expert Luke Tamblyn, who lives in Fawler.
