Toll bridge volunteers collect cash by the bucket-load
5:00pm Thursday 3rd January 2013 in News

VOLUNTEERS collected sackfuls of 5p pieces when they took over the Swinford Toll Bridge for the day.
Eynsham Primary School’s parent teacher association manned the bridge from 8am to 6pm, collecting the toll fees from motorists.
Twenty volunteers, all parents or grandparents of pupils, each took an hour shift collecting coins.
The £1,009 raised will help buy the children new books and pay for repairs to the school’s swimming pool.
Parents Nicola Davies and Lisa Thomas were collecting on the shift between 3pm and 4pm.
Mrs Davies, from Eynsham, said: “We were there when it was quite busy and had a lot of traffic coming through.
“A lot of people were very happy to dig deep.
“We had fun and a laugh. There were some very happy faces when people saw us and what we were collecting for.”
The group took advantage of traffic travelling back from Oxford United’s clash with Cheltenham Town.

That is why the toll gate was open, and the emotional blackmail lot were out. I just gave them a smile and said Thank You for the free crossing.
