FLOODS: ‘Two-month dry spell required in Oxfordshire’

OXON: The ground in Oxfordshire is so saturated that it will take months of dry weather for the risk of flooding to go away, it has been claimed.

Barry Russell of the Environment Agency warned that any rain in the next couple of weeks could lead to more flooding.

He said: “The amount of water that the ground can take is at zero so any water which falls to earth will just run straight off.

“In my opinion it would take a couple of months of no rain for us to be in a position where the ground in Oxfordshire can take any water again.”

As of last night seven stretches of the River Thames were on flood warning in Oxfordshire including at Abingdon, Kennington and Osney.

So the droughts at the earlier part of 2012 and the hosepipe ban and the insistance that the reservoirs and ground water levels won't recover for x number of years was wrong? Wow, didn't see that coming. We'll have more droughts and hosepipe bans next year followed by floods again. Funnily enough it happens every year.
