VISITORS to an Oxford museum will be able to make their own movies in a Victorian style today.

A family friendly drop-in session for the Fancy Names and Fun Toys exhibition takes place from 1pm to 4pm at the Museum of the History of Science. People heading along can find out what the Victorians knew about the moving image and make their own magical movie toy.

The museum’s acting director Stephen Johnston is hoping the event will inspire people to make their own stroboscopic discs.

Mr Johnston said: “They are rather small devices that give the impression of the moving image.

“They became very successful in the Victorian period. The event gives people a chance to make some of these.”
