The Oxford Farming Conference has finished after three days of discussion and debate.

This year’s event at the Oxford University Examination Schools in High Street saw speeches from Environment Secretary Owen Paterson, Mairead McGuinness MEP, while Prince Charles also pre-recorded a video message.

Another impotent event which Oxford Mail readers will have been sorry to have missed - though following recent flooding of City Council-owned allotments across Oxford, might City be tempted to advise its allotment holders to change to growing rice? Apparently this might also save on insurance claims, and possibly attract UN 'leaner, greener' agricultural grants for the creation of paddy fields in such places as the Abingdon Road - which didn't need a new pedestrian crossing the other week, so much as gondolas and a ferry!
