AN OXFORD care home is appealing for people to tell its residents stories.
Green Gates nursing home in Hernes Road, Summertown, is asking anyone with a tale to tell to come in and share it for this year’s National Storytelling Week, from January 26 to February 2.
Siobhan Drane, community and partnership executive at Bupa, which runs Green Gates, said: “Our residents love listening to stories and this is a great way to get members of the local community involved and bring different generations together.
“Hopefully these events will help maintain the ancient art of storytelling and encourage people to keep the tradition alive.”
The event is supported by charity The Reader Organisation which promotes the link between reading and wellbeing.
Emma Gibbons, project manager at the charity, said: “Reading poetry and stories aloud certainly has a positive effect on older people’s state of mind, so this local appeal is a fantastic way of getting others to join in with a simple yet therapeutic past time.”
