An award-winning amateur photographer from Wharfedale is celebrating weighing five and a half stone less than he did a year ago.
Trevor Davey MBE decided to start slimming last January when he was shocked to find he had gone past the 20-stone mark.
That shock, and the fact he would be turning 72 in 2012, convinced Trevor to aim to lose 72lbs – one for each year of his life – in just 12 months.
This week, thanks to the support of the Otley Slimming World group, he has not only achieved that goal, but exceeded it and now weighs 14 stone 10lbs.
Trevor, of Pool-in-Wharfedale, who chairs Otley and District Talking Newspaper and was awarded an MBE for his 32-year police career, said: “When I weighed in I was so shocked I could have cried. My scales at home were weighing about 7lbs lighter and, psychologically, I never wanted to exceed 20 stones.
“When asked for a target I said as it would be my 72nd birthday during the year, I would like to lose 72lbs. It seemed an awfully long way off, but eventually I got there so I then decided to go for another half a stone.
“The eating plan suggested by Slimming World is quite generous, provided you eat the correct types of food and the correct amounts.
“What I struggled with was bread and butter and nice cheese. I had some withdrawal symptoms cutting back on those.”
Trevor’s wardrobe has needed a complete revamp as his neck is now three and a half inches thinner and he’s lost nine inches from his waist.
He said: “Our slimming consultant, Jo, has been a major factor because she is so inspirational and hard- working. The group of people who attend each session are there to support each other. We share in each other’s highs and lows.”
Group consultant Jo Crowther said: “Since Trevor joined he has wowed us all with his incredible weight loss and has now hit an amazing target.
“He is so humble and gets very emotional when he starts reflecting on what a massive difference his weight loss has made to him and his health and happiness.
“He has also become an active member of my social team and has become a much- loved member and friend to us all.”
