A WOMAN was sexually assaulted in Banbury in the early hours of this morning.
Police say the 46-year-old woman had been out in the town and was at the taxi rank when a man tried to talk to her. She walked away but she was followed.
As she walked through People’s Park, the same man approached her and asked if he could put his arm around her. She refused and was pushed to the ground. The man then tried to undo her belt.
DC Joe Stevenson said: “Fortunately the man ran away when the woman screamed.
“This is a distressing incident and I would like to make the reassurance that we are doing everything possible to find who is responsible.
“I urge anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has information to help the police investigation, to contact the police.
Police have not revealed exactly what time the incident happened.
Anyone with information should call DC Stevenson on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
The man has been described as white, in his early 20s, around 5ft 6in and was wearing jeans with either a woolly hat or baseball cap.
