Manhunt for a would-be sex attacker

POLICE have reassured the public that they are doing all they can to catch a man who tried to sexually assaulted a woman in Banbury.

The 46-year-old woman had been out in the town and was at the taxi rank when a man tried to talk to her. She walked away but was followed.

As she walked through People’s Park in the early hours of Saturday morning, the same man approached her and asked if he could put his arm around her. Police said she refused and was pushed to the ground. The man then tried to undo her belt.

Dc Joe Stevenson said: “Fortunately the man ran away when the woman screamed. This is a distressing incident and I’d like to reassure the public that we’re doing everything possible to find who is responsible.” The man has been described as white, in his early 20s, around 5ft 6in and wearing jeans with either a woolly hat or baseball cap.

Police have not revealed exactly what time the incident happened. Call Dc Stevenson on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
