Mehdi kebab van pair hear their fate

A pair whose kebab van failed a hygiene inspection despite a warning will learn their fate today.

Brother and sister Mehdi and Wadeya Karrouchi, who run Mehdi’s in High Street, were warned in October they were in “the last chance saloon”. But an inspection the next month revealed several issues.

The city council’s licensing and registration committee will meet at 5pm at the Town Hall to decide upon their licence.

Why are these procedures so protracted? If the hygiene standards are not met withdraw the licence immediately and remove the health risk to the public.

Sid it is not only that, they also had the heat readings for the Kebab slabs filled in on the report sheet a day in advance (must be fortune tellers) now that is just taking the P. They have had every warning, and if they get another one, it just shows that the council are toothless. Or pick and choose who they will ban or not.

I had no idea Health & Safety rules were so popular among the OM posting community.

We have to protect our students delicate little tummies from dodgy kebabs. Can't have them missing their studies with a bad dose of Mehdi Belly.

It's more about the lethargy of the authorities enforcing their own rules but I when I am buying a kebab from one of these vans I would like to do so safely.

If you are happy to risk a potentially serious illness that is your prerogative.

It turns out the Mehdis have now been banned, so the council is doing something.

Nonetheless I find this interest in health & safety rather puzzling given the usual vitriol heaped on the authorities when prosecuting people for exceeding driving hours, not having the right fire exits, allowing smoking etc.
