UNIVERSITY graduates held a classical music concert to raise more than £3,000 for Oxford Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

The concert, at the North Wall on Saturday, featured graduates from Oxford and Cambridge universities and London music colleges.

The 20-piece string orchestra performed work by Bach, Britten, Pärt and Bartók to a crowd of about 120 people.

Cambridge University music graduate Jude Carlton, 22 and from Bicester, said: “It was great. It had a good atmosphere and it was a group of friends playing really. We all knew each other from university.”

The percussionist added: “It was fun to get together and put on a concert, and it was nice to do it for such a worthwhile cause.”

Oxford CAB director Gill Tishler said: “We were absolutely delighted by the amount raised and the level of support from the community.

“The money is essential to us in terms of maintaining the service.

“We have good funding from the city council but it does not cover all our costs and we rely heavily on fundraising from a wide range of sources.”

The CAB provides free help with benefits, financial, employment and housing issues.
