A CHARITY gig in memory of a 38-year-old footballer and musician who died last year has sold out.

Paul Thompson, of Aston, died of a rare form of heart failure while taking part in football training for Witney Royals in July.

Fat Lils in Corn Street, Witney, aims to raise £2,000 to help purchase a defibrillator for use by Witney sports teams.

All 150 tickets for Saturday’s gig have sold out.

Fat Lils owner Paul Spink played with Mr Thompson in rock cover band Fused, which will play at the gig.

Mr Spink said: “Paul was dear to all of us and we want to do all we can to maintain his memory.

“It is going to be an emotional gig. We have got Paul’s stepson playing bass for us in the gig – Paul had been teaching him.”

Mr Spink said more fundraising events were planned in the future.
