As long as the post arrives by 6pm (when, like many people I get home from work) all is good with me.

I'd like to be able to tell my postman just to "hold" my parcels at the sorting office though and pop a card through my door. It seems such a waste trekking them round the streets when I won't be in to accept it (my neighbours often work nights, so I'd hate for them to be woken).

I'd be happy for parcels to be held at the sorting office provided the sorting office was open daily until 8pm to allow me to collect it. A 3 hour window on a Saturday is not sufficient.

I think the Cowley one is open till at least 7pm, 4 days a week, that's very good.

The whole thing is a very sic joke. It isn't that long ago when Oxford had two mail deliveries per day, with the first around or just after breakfast - unless you were a student, when it would have seemed like the middle of the night! What Royal Mail is doing is continuing its policy of side-lining the letters and mail side of the business, and concentrating money and manpower on developing the parcels business, with an eye to selling that off. What will happen, is that like telephones, gas, railways, electricity and water, the British public will have been conned-rotten by both Labour and Tory-led governments into off-loading publicly owned utilities, and then being faced with costs and charges forced upon people from the private sector which are heavily load prices with 'free market economy' greed. The hype and spin is that privatising 'saves money' but the reality is that it costs jobs, and invariably leads to much higher prices - you only have to look at electricity and rail fares to see this.
