A WOMAN who claims she was raped and sold for sex as a child, was branded a “compulsive liar”, the Old Bailey has heard.

The witness, known as Girl 1, has been on the stand since Friday, testifying at the trial of nine men accused of running a child sex gang in Oxford.

She says Kamar Jamil, brothers Akhtar and Anjum Dogar, and Assad Hussain, exploited her for sex between the ages of 12 and 15.

And yesterday she defended her claims at the court when Jamil’s barrister Sally O’Neill suggested her client was not responsible.

She said: “I haven’t come all this way six or seven years later to tell a lie about it."

She added: “Why would I pick someone out of the air?

“I know what’s happened to me.

“I know who has touched me and done stuff to me.

“I’m not here to lie or point fingers at anyone who hasn’t done anything.”

The court heard the witness made two rape allegations in 2005.

She told police in 2006 that Akhtar Dogar had raped her.

Miss O’Neill said: “You were quite willing and prepared during this time to make allegations of rape against other men and made absolutely no mention at all of anything with a man who you described as ‘K’.”

A social worker had also described the teen as a “compulsive liar”, the jury heard.

But the young woman said: “I lied a lot at this time.

“I didn’t want people to know what was happening.

“I was a child trying to cover up the fact that I was a child being abused by older men.”

And asked why she only recently decided to give evidence, the witness said: “It changed my mind when I realised this kind of abuse is still happening in Oxford.

“What happened to me was awful and I don’t want it to happen to anyone else.”

She also said as she got older it dawned on her what had happened, adding: “I started to realise I had been taken advantage of.”

The witness told the jury she saw Jamil in the Tesco store in St Aldate’s, Oxford, in February last year where he worked as a security guard. It was after that she told police about him.

She said: “I walked into this Tesco and boom, there he was in front of me.”

She admitted she had hung around with a bad crowd, adding: “I put myself in situations where I was liable to be abused.”

Miss O’Neill, finishing her cross-examination, said to the witness: “If he (Jamil) played such a role in this, why was it do you think that you couldn’t remember his name?”

And she added: “I suggest you recognised him as someone who had simply been around and the rest of your account is simply not true.”

The woman replied: “I know for a fact I had sex with him.”

The witness is due to be questioned by Akhtar Dogar’s barrister Andrew Jefferies tomorrow.

The nine defendants deny all the charges against them.

The trial continues.
