Folk musician John Spiers is celebrating after his band Bellowhead were awarded one of the most prestigious prizes in music.

The group, which was formed in Oxford nine years ago, won the BBC Radio Folk Awards’ Album of the Year accolade for their record Broadside.

The category was decided by members of the public.

Melodeon player Mr Spiers, who lives with his family in Wootton, near Abingdon, accepted the award for the band at the ceremony in Glasgow, on Wednesday night.
