HIGH Street chain HMV may have gone into administration, but Oxford’s only independent record store is about to turn two.
And to celebrate, Cowley Road’s Truck Store is having some of Oxford’s hottest bands to play at its birthday party on Sunday.
The gig, starting at 1pm, will be headlined by indie kids Trophy Wife, who are members of Oxford arts collective Blessing Force.
Oxford Brookes University student Sean Duggan played at the store with his band Empty White Circles on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old, from Cowley, said: “It is nice to see that something has not gone very corporate.
“The store has a very homely feel to it.”
Matt Chapman, who has worked at the store since shortly after it opened, explained the reason for its success.
“We give the customers what they want,” said Mr Chapman, 24. “When we opened, we didn’t stock anywhere near as much vinyl, so we doubled it after the first night.”
Truck Store is owned and run by Carl Smithson, who also runs Rapture record shop in Witney.
