MUM-of-two Cheryl Hewer was happy to receive a free check-up during a health bus’s first visit to Littlemore.
For Ms Hewer, like other residents in the village, a visit to a GP is a bus ride away – with the nearest doctors’ surgery about two miles from Littlemore at Donnington Health Centre in Henley Avenue.
Barmaid Ms Hewer, pictured with Mobile Health MOT nurse Louise Nicholson, said: “It is nice to have somewhere we can go to have a quick chat about health things.”
The 29-year-old, who is registered with a GP in Cowley, added: “I don’t really go to the doctor that often because it is far away and it is not practical for me as I have two young children.”
The bus – which will visit the village once a month – is funded by £2,000 from county councillors Gill and John Sanders and £500 from city councillor John Tanner out of their councillors’ budgets.
It will next be in St Nicholas Road, by the shops, on February 28 from 10am-4pm. No appointment is necessary.
