SCHOOLCHILDREN performed their own plays about food poverty and justice at Oxford’s Pegasus Theatre.

The Reach for the Sky programme, run by the theatre in Magdalen Road, East Oxford, has been working with four schools since September.

It encourages children to act, dance and perform music while teaching them about world affairs.

The weekly practices concluded on Friday with one show for the schools and another for family and friends, Isobel Didcock, from Carswell Primary School in Bostock Road, Abingdon, was among the actors. Her school’s play was about people being forced to move to another planet after the earth is destroyed.

The nine-year-old said: “We were acting, and there was a bit of singing too. It is good fun, I love it. I performed our play with my class – it was teaching us to not waste things we have.”

Wood Farm Primary School in Titup Hall Drive, Headington, Larkmead School in Faringdon Road, Abingdon, and Cheney School in Cheney Lane, Headington, also took part.
