A MOTHER has described her daughter as a "lost soul" who could not laugh or cry while at the hands of a child sex gang, the Old Bailey has heard this afternoon.

The mother of the alleged victim was giving evidence at the trial of nine men charged with running a child sex exploitation ring in Oxford.

Her daughter, known as Girl 1 as she cannot be named, claims she was raped and sold for sex by Kamar Jamil and brothers Akhtar and Anjum Dogar between 2004 and 2007 when she was aged between 12 and 15.

Her mother said: "There was just nothing much left to her. Apart from aggression if we tried to question her about anything, there was no emotion left in her whatsoever.

"She didn't laugh, she didn't cry. It sounds awful but I was desperate for her to start crying and let go. But she couldn't cry.

"I just wanted to help her but I couldn't. She just seemed like a lost soul."

The defendants deny all the charges.

The trial continues.
