A NURSE will mark eight years of caring for hundreds of babies by taking part in the OX5 Run again this year.
Rebecca Kendall, from Eynsham, works in the Oxford Children’s Hospital neonatal intensive care unit as a senior staff nurse.
The 29-year-old, who has looked after hundreds of sick or premature babies, will be marking eight years at the unit when she runs the Blenheim Palace fundraiser, organised by the Oxford Mail, on March 10.
She said: “I love my job. It is just so rewarding to care for them and watch them grow and getting better and develop. You get so close to the families, but it is wonderful when they are strong enough to go home.
“I’m just so lucky. I can’t believe I have almost been here eight years.
“The work is very busy and intensive but we are used to working with the pressure. When it is a quiet day it is unnerving.”
Miss Kendall is taking on the OX5 for the second time and is using the five-miler as a warm-up for the London Marathon in April, which she will run for the hospital and the neo-natal unit.
This year marks the 11th year of the OX5 Run, which is sponsored by Oxford-based recruitment firm Allen Associates. It is hoped to beat last year’s total raised of £60,000.
