Playwright among honorary degree recipients

PLAYWRIGHT Sir Tom Stoppard is among the leading figures from the worlds of science, the arts, law and sport to be given honorary degrees by Oxford University.
The list of honorary degrees was announced by the university yesterday.
Stoppard, 75, has won numerous awards for his plays including The Invention of Love, and Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead, but he has also won an Oscar for his screenplay for Shakespeare in Love.
Another recipient is paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, who won 11 gold medals over the course of her career.
Dame Anne Owers, the chairman of the Independent Police Complaints Commission, and the Honourable Andrew Li Kwok Nang, the former Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal of Hong Kong, have also been recognised for their life’s work.
Colin Smith, director of engineering and technology at Rolls-Royce, Professor Anthony Grafton, a history professor at Princeton University, Professor Ingrid Daubechies, a maths professor at Duke University, and pianist Murray Perahia have also been given honoured.
The degrees will be awarded at Encaenia, the university’s annual honorary degree ceremony, on June 19.
