WI goes nutty over Queen's Jubilee
7:10am Monday 25th February 2013 in News
WOMEN’S Institute members in Witney have planted trees to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
West Witney WI, along with the woodland managers Witney Woodland Volunteers, planted two Walnut saplings in Deer Park Wood.
The saplings were donated by a member of the WI.
West Witney WI president Sandra Fenton said: “We wanted to plant a tree because the Queen has been on the throne for so long.
“We planted a tree when it was the millennium and we thought it would be a nice gesture to do the same for the jubilee.”
When the institute was formed in 1933 its meetings were held in Deer Park and it now meets in the Methodist church in High Street.
