Eco homes will cope with extreme heat
1:00pm Tuesday 26th February 2013 in News
NEW homes at Bicester’s eco town will be able to cope with severe hot weather predicted by climate experts.
A2 Dominion say the 393 houses in the first phase of the 5,000-home eco town on farmland at North West Bicester will be future- proofed to deal with global warming.
Homes will be designed to stay cool during hot weather and will allow for window shutters – used in hot countries to keep rooms cool – to be added in the future.
The move comes after research into the impact of climate change on buildings by a team based at Oxford Brookes University, called the low carbon building group of the Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development (OISD).
A2 Dominion hopes to start work on the site by May.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel for the "feel good" press release surely?
Any home can be "upgraded" a for cooler feel. Ceramic tiles on concrete floors keep things cool, fitting shutters.
Even opening a Velux window in the loft and a downstairs window to obtain a through draft helps!

A2 Dominion don't even own the land yet!
And this news story implies that the houses will be able to stay cool in the future if we get climate change, because the people who live there will be able to add shutters! So pretty much the same as every other house in the country then? More hot air I think.
