A RUGBY club choir will be swapping the Kassam Stadium for the Far East to sing at one of the world’s biggest tournaments.
The London Welsh Rugby Club Choir is flying around the world to sing on the pitch of the Hong Kong Rugby Club on March 23.
They will join the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir for the performance in front of 40,000 people. It will be the first time singing has been part of the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Sevens.
Choir chairman Joe Jones said: “To be part of the first choir to sing on the pitch in the 38-year history of this fabulous tournament is an immense honour. We’re thrilled to have been asked, and are very proud to represent both the club and the Welsh nation on this high-profile stage.”
The choir previously sang to an 80,000 crowd and one billion TV viewers at the Olympic Stadium during the London 2012 closing ceremony.
