A POSTBOX placed in Headington, Oxford, just nine months ago has been set on fire by arsonists.
The vandals started a small fire in the postbox at the corner of Barrington Close and All Saints Road on Sunday.
Firefighters were called to the incident at 11.15am. Police did not attend the scene as the fire was put out quickly.
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Elizabeth Hill said: “It is thought to be arson.
“Unfortunately we don’t have any witness accounts.”
Royal Mail spokeswoman Val Bodden said: “We apologise to customers who may have posted items in the postbox.”
She urged customers who used the box after Saturday lunchtime and before the fire to call Royal Mail on 08457 740740.
Campaigners had fought to get the postbox, which was put up last May.
The previous postbox in All Saints Road was removed during redevelopment.
