Attack on deer by pack of dogs ‘like a horror film’

First published in

A REPORT three dogs savaged a deer by a public footpath has sparked a police lookout for their owner.

Sian Walker, 45, said she was left traumatised by the “horrific” attack on a path near Grenoble Road in east Oxford on Sunday afternoon.

The student, who lives off Grenoble Road, said she was walking her two dogs at midday when she heard the deer screaming.

She said: “It was like a horror film, the screaming was horrific. They were three vicious dogs, there was blood everywhere.

“I kicked at the dogs and the deer managed to get away for a bit but then the dogs were after it again. “Next time it could have been one of my little dogs, or a small child kicking a ball around.”

She claimed the owner of the dogs – described as two Lurcher-types and a terrier – did not seem bothered about the attack when he arrived at the scene a few minutes later, but ‘ran away’ when Ms Walker called the police.

The police attened Grenoble Road at 12.07pm. Thames Valley Police spokesman Francine Rodrigues said: “Unfortunately we couldn’t find the deer. The neighbourhood policing team have been made aware and are keeping their eyes out for a man fitting his description.”

She said because police could not find the deer’s body they have not launched an official investigation.

I had two cats killed in the same area a few years ago, by an Irish Wolfhound.
