Gran died after her car hit concrete block

A CONCRETE block on a road verge was the crucial factor in the death of a popular Witney woman, an inquest heard.

Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court heard on Thursday that Elaine Boddington’s car left the road and overturned after hitting a concrete verge block, then crashed into a wall at a residential home.

She suffered severe facial and internal injuries and died at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, two days after the August 25 accident.

The 66-year-old mother of two, who had just become a grandmother, was on her way to the Horton Hospital, Banbury, to visit her elderly mother when the crash happened near Finstock.

Tests showed there was no sign of seizure, heart or brain defect to explain why she might have lost control of the car.

Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter recorded a verdict of accidental death.
