DRIVERS illegally using the park-and-ride lane were fined as a police clampdown was launched on Botley Road.

Officers spent an hour-and-a-half near the turning for the Seacourt park-and-ride facility, spotting drivers who used the park-and-ride lane and then merged with non-bus-lane traffic.

Spokesman Rhianne Pope said: “They were there from 8am to 9.30am. They gave out a lot of advice and issued 15 fixed penalty notices.”

The 15 drivers will now have to pay £30 fines.

Great news that our boys in blue have stamped out all Bullfinch type offending and now have time to engage in revenue raising displacement activities. Hope you got a bit of Taser practice in on these evil motoring Public Enemies, lads.
Well done!

'Bollards'

That's all that's needed to keep the lanes separate meaning if your in the Park and Ride lane you cant go anywhere else then the Police can do some proper policing.

Oh well done TVP.... Out of all the crimes in Oxford you chose to monitor a bus lane??!! There are drug house near where I live, which are so obvious. traffic police pulled over a car that resided two doors away from me the other night, that had no tax disc on it...and you let them go...no clamp....nothing... yet they still drive about in it!! I guess the doughnut fund was low!!! easy pickings preying on the motorist and issuing fine rather than catching real criminals!.

Using the bus lane to jump the queue is selfish and anti-social.

Why should drivers who obey the rules be disadvantaged by self-centered individuals?

These are the kind of people who, on dual carriageways and motorways, upon seeing advance warning of a lane closure, keep in the lane until the last second and then force their way into the queue.

Yes, its important the police attack 'real crimes' but they are also there to prevent breaches of the peace, which selfish driving can cause, via road rage.

We cannot blame the police if they don't have the resources they need to do a comprehensive job.

totally agree with you. if you stamp out minor offences, then larger offences do not get committed. people see this as a waste of police time, but other offences get discovered too, such as no insurance or licence, for example

I totally agree. Can the police please do the same to the Banbury Road roundabout when heading to Oxford from Kidlington.

It won't stop idiots like the BMW driver who almost wiped me and and son out on London Road today. I n fact, if I hadn't swerved into the bus lane, I would probably be in the JR this evening. Sadly, no one can legislate against selfishness and ignorance.
