Red Nose 'flashmob' gives shoppers a surprise in Oxford

HUNDREDS of shoppers stopped in their tracks when a “flashmob” in central Oxford spontaneously burst into song.
Eighty Rock Choir members from all over Oxfordshire were pretending to be shoppers in Bonn Square before they started singing yesterday lunchtime.
Their performance was held to promote Red Nose Day on March 15.
Rock Choir leader Deborah Coates, from Banbury, said: “It went really well. The choir members turned up and loitered around disguised as members of the public, but we all had the Rock Choir uniform under our coats.
“Then they all gradually joined in to sing some 80s classics.
“In the second of our three songs, we all took our coats off and people seemed to understand things a bit better.
“It was the first time we have got so many choirs together from around Oxfordshire – we had people from Banbury, Bicester, Beckley, Wallingford and Oxford.
“Red Nose Day is a fantastic cause helping people here in Oxfordshire as well as abroad.”
Flashmobs are public events – usually organised through social networking sites like Facebook – that are organised but give the impression of coming out of the blue.
