AMAN Kaith only picked up the cello in July but already looks like a natural.

The eight-year-old pupil from Windale Primary School, in Blackbird Leys, Oxford, was one of 30 string-band performers putting on their first public show on Saturday.

The band played five songs to hundreds of people at Templars Square in Cowley.

Aman, of Greater Leys, said: “I wasn’t nervous at all and had loads of fun playing for the people. It was a great time and I love playing the instrument.

Mother Reena said: “It was the perfect Mother’s Day present, I was so incredibly proud of him. He is definitely a musical child. If he doesn’t go on to study medicine he could easily become a star with the cello.”

The acting headteacher of Windale Primary School Dianne Carbon said: “The children enjoy playing together and work hard.”

The free school sessions for the pupils are run by Tom Draper-Rodi, from the Oxfordshire Music Service. It is trying to secure funding to ensure sessions will continue to run from September.
