Police crack down on errant cyclists
7:00pm Tuesday 12th March 2013 in News
Police are holding a two-day operation to monitor cyclists who flout rules on pavement riding.
Cyclists spotted in High Street and Parsons Street today and tomorrow will be issued with an on-the-spot £30 fine.
Persistent offenders will be reported or taken to court.
Police said the crackdown was in response to cyclists continuing to flout ‘no cycling’ signs and persistently riding the wrong way down both streets.

Most of the so called cycle paths round Oxford are just bits of pavements pinched off the poor pedestrians to appease motorists and inexperienced cyclists. The only roadside ones round Oxford I regard as safer than using the road are those by the ring road and the Marston Ferry and even these become dangerous when it's icy as they rarely get gritted.
They should also crack down on cyclists that cycle on the road when there are perfectly good cycle paths next to them, they are usually there because of the number of accidents involving cyclists and cars on those particular roads.
I am a keen cyclist but would much rather use a cycle path than a busy road! I've had many of near misses when old biddies that can barely see at the best of times, let alone when driving have not given me enough room on the road!

Why do they keep giving advance warning? It's hardly a "crackdown" if you tell people when it's happening!
