Work to start on pedestrian crossing

Work to build a pedestrian crossing on a busy road in South Oxford is due to start this week.

County highways staff said work on the new zebra crossing in Weirs Lane was due to start “in the coming days” and would last for three weeks.

The £28,000 crossing is being funded using area stewardship funds controlled by Isis county councillors John Tanner and Chip Sherwood.

Its approval by transport cabinet member Rodney Rose last year came after more than two decades of campaigning for a crossing on the road. It will not be closed during construction.
