FLYTIPPERS cost council taxpayers almost £1,000 after dumping four metric tonnes of rubbish in a village near Bicester.
Last Wednesday morning Cherwell District Council received reports of flytipping on an unnamed road near Piddington Gate Farm in Piddington.
Five council street cleaners spent about an hour-and-a-half clearing the road, and four staff returned two days later after more flytipping was reported in the same spot.
George Reynolds, deputy leader of the council, said: “To dump such a large quantity of rubbish in a rural location shows a blatant disregard for the environment, residents and motorists, not to mention the taxpayers who have to foot the clean up bill.
“This is damaging to the environment and wildlife in that area, and poses a risk to drivers using that stretch of road.”
The council said the clear-up cost £978. Council officers want to trace the drivers of a white Transit-style tipper lorry seen in the area. Contact the council’s environmental services team on 01295 227007.
