ARTISTS had an opportunity to sketch casts of ancient statues at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

The museum opened one of its galleries on Wednesday to individuals to test their skills in shading and anatomy.

Lisbeth Browning, 67, from Oxford, was one of those who took part.

She said: “I think it was wonderful.

“We were inspired to go along because you do not normally have access to it and we were able to sketch something that you normally would not.”

Mrs Browning, a retired teacher and planner, said she regularly gets together with friends to sketch around Oxford.

She said: “Art is the love of my life. To produce something that you can actually see and the way you get absorbed in it is wonderful.”
