Update: Southern Electric hopes to return power to affected homes "shortly"

SOUTHERN Electric hopes to return power to 200 homes still hit by an earlier outage “shortly”.

Power was cut to just over 1,000 homes in the Summertown area following a fault at 9.57am today.

Southern Electric Power Distribution said mobile generators were delivered to the area at 4.45pm to restore power to remaining homes affected. The company hopes those will soon start supplying power to those properties.

The company has located the source of the problem, in Woodstock Road, and work will be carried out overnight to fix it tonight.

A spokesman said: “We would like to think it will be fixed by the morning.”

An investigation will then be carried out to find the cause of the fault.

More than 500 homes affected had power restored within 20 minutes by the company after electricity was rerouted.
