Dementia study 'will help many'

THE Chief Medical Officer came to Oxford yesterday to officially launch a research project aimed at tackling for dementia.

The £3.75m Clinical Research Facility is spread across a number of sites in the city. It includes two units at Oxford University’s Department of Experimental Psychology in South Parks Road (the Oxford Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma and the Oxford Cognitive Neuropsychology Centre); the Clinical Research Facility at the Warneford Hospital, and the Charles Wolfson Clinical Neuroscience Facility in the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital. Prof Dame Sally Davies, who is also chief scientific adviser at the Department of Health, said: “Cognitive health is a really important area for research because it affects large numbers of people, and includes conditions such as dementia, communication impairments in children, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, schizophrenia and stroke.”
