A CELEBRATION of all things Chinese transformed an Oxford museum.
Both modern and traditional culture were celebrated at China Night in the Ashmolean Museum, Beaumont Street, on Friday.
The evening featured everything from lion dancing and karaoke to modern art.
Music, acupuncture, workshops, and games such as Mah Jong and Chinese chess were on offer, while there was also a chance to see various Chinese exhibitions on display, including the Xu Bing Landscape Landscript exhibition.
The event was organised in association with Oxford University’s China Centre, while the Oxfordshire Chinese Community and Advice Centre was also involved.
Max Gittings, 34, from Birmingham, performed alongside Nora Wang as part of the Jasmine Moon Duo. He played the hulusi, a traditional Chinese flute, with Ms Wang on the guzheng, a harp-like instrument. Mr Gittings said: “It looked like it was a great success.”
The evening was part of the museum’s monthly Live Friday events, which give visitors the chance to see collections and exhibitions after normal opening hours.
