A YOUTH football club is kicking back into action next month after a hiatus of more than eight years.

The Bullingdon Youth Football Club provides youngsters from areas including Wood Farm with coaching and experience playing competitive football.

So far the club has an under sevens and an under eights team, but organisers say they need more volunteers so they can take on more children and teams.

The club, which trains at the Peat Moors recreation ground, will start playing five-a-side football competitively next month in The Oxford Mail youth football league.

Misty Baker, secretary and treasurer of the new team, said the club was open to both boys and girls.

The 35-year-old mother-of-three, of Bulan Road, said: “It’s about having fun and getting children out and about. It’s really good to get the kids out and let them play the game they love. It’s quite sad that it has not been done for them recently.”

Manager Jeffrey Sackey, 29, said the Bullingdon Boys Football Team had disbanded at least eight years ago and youngsters in the area had not had a local team to play for since.

He said:“It’s a lovely area and kids around are always playing football, but they just don’t have any guidance in their football. There is a lot of ability.”

The dad-of-two from Greater Leys added: “It’s about getting the kids active. We are not just playing football we are getting them into sports altogether.

“It’s for all ages and all abilities.”

The team is being supported by Bullingdon Community Association.

Secretary Richard Bryant said the association once had ten football junior teams running from the community centre.

He said: “We have been very keen to revive that and we have seen this group as an opportunity to do that.

“We are delighted.”

He also said the club would help ensure the community centre’s facilities were used as often as possible.

To get involved with the club go along to the training sessions in the Peat Moors recreation ground from 4.45pm on Thursdays.
