INTERVIEWS will be carried out next week to appoint an independent person to carry out a review into how the controversial Castle Mill student development was approved by Oxford City Council.

The review will look into how the council can instill confidence in the planning process.

Three people have been shortlisted but their names are not being made public. Council spokesman Chris Lee said the council approached three senior planning professionals about the role.

He said: “Interviews will take place next week. The individual appointed will be paid for their time.

The amount has not yet been agreed.”

The selection of the independent person will be made by David Edwards, the council’s executive director for city regeneration, city councillor Oscar Van Nooijen, the chairman of the west area planning committee, and city councillor John Goddard, the convenor of the working party.

Representatives of Oxford Civic Society and Oxford Preservation Trust are also on the working party.

It is anticipated that the individual will be appointed this month, deliver their report to the working party by November and this will then be examined by the west area planning committee in December.
