Boat race will get them to the river tomorrow
10:00am Saturday 31st August 2013 in News
IT ALL started six years ago when two hand-built “nowka” canoes were imported from Dhaka in Bangladesh to Oxford.
Now the annual boat race is expected to attract a crowd of about 300 spectators tomorrow.
The spectacle is organised by the Oxford Bangladeshi Boat Club and will see 15 teams competing in a series of 300-metre races at Donnington Bridge.
Secretary Mohammed Mannan said: “People can expect to see a great race. It will be a lot of fun. It is the second biggest sport in Bangladesh after cricket.”
The event starts at 11am and finishes at 5pm and includes activities such as face painting, a bouncy castle, traditional music, dancing and food.
