Banbury hospital’s smoking shelters plan backed
7:00am Thursday 5th September 2013 in News
A bid to install three smoking shelters at the Horton General Hospital should be approved, a council officer said.
Cherwell District Council’s Graham Wyatt said the shelters, to go by the maternity unit, A&E and the Banbury Road entrance, were acceptable in design terms.
He said: “It is ironic that the hospital is required to provide shelters for smokers.”
One resident objected, saying hospitals should be smoke-free.
The trust banned smoking at its sites in 2007 and has applied to install nine shelters at its Oxford hospitals, including the John Radcliffe.
The council’s planning committee will consider the Banbury plan today.
