THESE dramatic pictures show the aftermath of a police chase through the county.

Two men were arrested after the chase ended yards from the Turnpike pub in Yarnton on Wednesday evening.

The pursuit of the red Citroen C1, which involved 14 officers, began at about 6pm on the A40 near Witney.

Alexa Collicott, from Gloucestershire Constabulary, said its officers were alerted to a burglary at a home in Hoo Lane, Chipping Campden, at about 4pm the same day, from where a red Citroen C1 had been stolen.

This led to a search being carried out on the routes out of Chipping Campden and in the surrounding area.

Neighbouring police forces were alerted and the vehicle was spotted by Thames Valley Police officers in West Oxfordshire.

They called in the force helicopter and followed the Citroen as it went on a cross-country route to try to evade them.

The chase went from the A40 to Bicester Road, Kidlington, along the A4260, to Morton Avenue, Yarnton Road, and the Bladon roundabout before ending in a field at Yarnton.

The car crashed through a farm gate off Yarnton Lane, at 6.26pm.

Inspector Paul Bradford said: “There was a pursuit on Wednesday evening which involved local police units, roads police units and a force helicopter.

“A vehicle was stolen from the Gloucestershire area and was driving towards Oxford.

“There was short pursuit which culminated in the vehicle being stopped in a field off the A44 near Kidlington at 6.26pm. Two persons were arrested from the vehicle.”

An employee at The Turnpike pub, who did not want to be named, said: “None of us actually saw the crash, because it is just out of our eyesight.

“We saw it being towed away afterwards. You could see the front of the car was squashed.”
