Biker, 85, knows you’re only as old as your wheels

CARE home resident Barbara Jarman got to relive her youth on Thursday – on the back of a Harley Davidson motorbike.
Marston Court residential home, in Oxford, arranged the treat for the 85-year-old, who has always loved bikes.
She said: “I did enjoy it. I enjoyed being out in the fresh air and the independence of it. I am used to riding motorbikes. I had a Honda Express for about 20 years.
“Riding a Harley was some-thing I wanted to do for a long time. I don’t know why, there is just something about them.”
Asked if she would like to have another go on the bike, she said: “No. The roads get so busy.” Mrs Jarman, a widow from Headington with a 50-year-old daughter, Helen, had her first bike when she was 23 but last rode one five years ago. She rode on the back of the Harley while friend Steven Eeley drove.
Paul Lucas, activities co-ordinator at Marston Court, said: “We have a wish tree and residents write on a card saying what their wish might be.
“Barbara had a burning ambition to ride a Harley Davidson, so it was our job to fix it for her.”
He added: “You are never too old to do something you have always wanted to do.”
