Brookes puts homeless students in Holiday Inn
11:00am Wednesday 18th September 2013 in News
OXFORD Brookes University is putting up 40 first year students in a hotel because their accommodation has not been built yet.
The university has so far been unable to find accommodation for them because a block of student flats in East Oxford will not be finished until next month.
Instead it has put them in the Holiday Inn near the Kassam Stadium in Grenoble Road.
Brookes said the students were paying a “nominal amount” for the accommodation and it was footing most of the bill – although it declined to reveal a figure.
University spokesman Ed Reed said it did not guarantee accommodation to applicants who put the university as their second choice, and this year there were more students affected than normal.
The accommodation block which is currently being completed is in Chapel Street on the former Travis Perkins site. It will house 190 students.
