Jack’s pressed into action
1:00pm Saturday 21st September 2013 in News
AN abundance of apples that were going to waste have been turned into litre of vitamin-packed fresh juice, thanks to Jack Pritchard.
The 26-year-old from Rose Hill, who is supporter of Abundance Oxford and Rose Hill and Iffley Low Carbon group, helped to organise an apple pressing evening at his home in Hunsdon Road this week.
Two crates of apples from trees in Mr Pritchard’s garden and from neighbours were pressed into action. He said: “We have two apple trees in the garden and three years ago I realised quite how much they were going to waste. They were rotting but we were still buying apple juice from the supermarket.”
So, Mr Pritchard, who works in logistics, bought an apple press. He explained: “It is more environmentally-friendly to use what you have.
“It is about community sustainability and making people aware of what is around them.
“Apple juice always tastes much nicer when you see it turn from apples into juice. It was really good.”
Another session is being held on Tuesday, October 1 from 7pm at 5 Hunsdon Road.
