Bridging the gap as two Oxford icons mark centenary
11:00am Tuesday 1st October 2013 in News
Two iconic Oxfordshire institutions celebrated their centenary over the weekend.
Hertford Bridge, popularly known as the Bridge of Sighs, celebrated its 100th birthday.
And Hertford College marked the occasion with a special cake and invited a Union Jack Mini from the Cowley Plant – where staff are also enjoying their centenary celebrations.
Hertford Bridge links the two parts of Hertford College over New College Lane. Its distinctive design makes it a city landmark.
Rebecca Baxter, external communications manager at Mini Plant Oxford, said: “This is a landmark year for Oxford with two centenaries – one celebrating 100 years of car making in the city and the other the anniversary of the Bridge of Sighs.
“The two sum up Oxford’s rich industrial and academic heritage.”
