HOLLYWOOD actor Brad Pitt is one of the world’s biggest movie stars.

Now, amid great secrecy, he is filming in a small Oxfordshire village near Watlington as work gets under way on a Second World War movie.

Producers are remaining tight-lipped about what is going on – although local people in Shirburn have been warned to expect loud bangs.

But rumours are spreading about whether or not he has popped in for a curry at a local restaurant.

The A-lister and co-star Shia LaBeouf have been spotted on top of tanks in fields in Shirburn with hundreds of crew members and extras in scenes for a new film called Fury, due for release in November next year.

It is rumoured that Mr Pitt himself enjoyed a meal at Watlington’s Indian restaurant House of Spice in Couching Street, although the restaurant declined to confirm or deny it.

Where Mr Pitt might be staying – and whether Angelina and the kids are in town – is also not known.

Residents in the area say they have received leaflets from the film’s producers warning them to expect noise including gunfire and explosions.

Andy Stokes, landlord at The Chequers pub in Love Lane, said: “Monday was the first day of shooting.

“It is a huge site.

“The crew is walking round the town making use of the local facilities.

“There is quite intense security over there.

“Lots of tanks have wheeled in.”

“It is brilliant.

“It causes disruption while they are here, but we all watch films.

“It is good for the town. It creates a bit of interest.”

On Brad Pitt, he said: “He would be welcome here. Apparently he does like traditional rural ale.”

Fury is being directed by David Ayer, who also wrote The Fast and The Furious.

The film follows a crew of Americans in Nazi Germany towards the end of the Second World War.

Matt Pritchard, from The Fat Fox Inn in Shirburn Street, Watlington, where some of the film crew are staying, said: “It is quite cool. Every now and then you hear some gunfire and bangs.”

He added that the residents and businesses in the area had been warned about the noise.

Shirburn resident Stefanie Taeumer said she had received a leaflet through her door about the filming of Fury and said: “I like movies. I find it quite exciting.”

This is not the first time Brad Pitt has filmed one of his movies in Oxfordshire.

In September 2011, the actor was filming zombie thriller World War Z at the former American airbase at Upper Heyford, near Bicester.

Mr Pitt was also spotted with his five-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox during a visit to Legoland Windsor in Berkshire on Saturday.

And last week he met ex-tank crewman Peter Comfort, 90, from Kent, who was invited to watch the filming of the Hollywood star’s movie.

Disappointingly for the movie star, the D-Day veteran admitted he had no idea who Mr Pitt was.

Fury is due for release next autumn.
