Fearsome Haka challenge for rugby club visitors
1:00pm Wednesday 16th October 2013 in News
BROTHERS Morgan, 13, and Jacob Russell, 10, got into the Kiwi spirit at a rugby club’s open day.
They were among Gosford All Blacks’ players performing the traditional New Zealand Haka war dance Ka Mate at half-time during the first team’s match.
The open day at Stratfield Brake, Kidlington, on Saturday, included demonstrations for youngsters and women, a beer festival, pig roast, touch rugby taster sessions and a first team match against Berkshire side Tadley.
The evening was rounded off with a quiz and disco. Morgan, who plays lock for the under-13s and attends Gosford Hill School, said: “It was great to be out on the pitch supporting the club and our first team.”
Mum and organiser Victoria Russell said: “It was a really good event and we had really positive feedback.
“We had quite a few children turn up for training the next morning, even in the rain.”
